Former Centereach discount store becomes urgent care center

Construction has begun to convert a former Centereach discount store into an urgent care center.

Leaders of Simone Healthcare Development, Catholic Health and Ocean State Job Lot were joined by local officials at a groundbreaking ceremony last week marking the start of work on a new Catholic Health Ambulatory & Urgent Care at 2112 Middle Country Road.

The $17 million project will redevelop the 63,000 square foot retail store, formerly occupied by Ocean State Job Lot, into a new multi-specialty practice including primary care, women’s health, behavioral health, cardiology, neurosciences, orthopedics and several other services.

Ocean State moved its Centereach store to a new 36,000 square foot space on the east side of the property. Simone Healthcare Development, a subsidiary of Simone Development Companies, acquires part of the building from Ocean State and leases it to Catholic Health. The new facility is expected to open in the spring of 2023.

Bronx-based Simone Development specializes in the development healthcare, office, retail, industrial and residential buildings and owns and manages more than 7 million square feet across 130 properties.

“We are extremely pleased to begin construction on this property,” Joseph Simone, president of Simone Development Companies, said in a company statement. “It’s been a complex process to resolve commercial and approval issues, but it’s worth every effort to bring Catholic Health to Centereach.”
