Suspect killed near Millenia Mall in shootout with Orlando police

A 19-year-old man was killed in a shootout involving an officer near Millenia Shopping Center on Saturday night. asked to exit by a Neiman Marcus store around 7:12 p.m. The suspect, who was identified as Sebastian Sepulveda Roman, pulled out a gun and fired once outside the mall, OPD said. The off-duty officer launched a foot pursuit and called for reinforcements. According to the police department, Roman did not discharge his weapon when he was shot outside the mall. A duty officer in a patrol car caught up with the suspect outside an Olive Garden restaurant across from the mall, chef Orlando Rolón said. Roman and the police exchanged gunfire in the restaurant’s parking lot, according to Rolón. Roman was shot and injured between two cars. “We don’t know at this point whether it was our gunshots that caused the death of this individual or whether he committed suicide or fell – because he fell between cars – if he injured himself to the point that he could have actually suffered a fatal injury,” Rolón said. An off-duty police officer was working on extra duty at the Millenia Shopping Center near Millenia Boulevard and Conroy Road when a man was asked to leave a Neiman Marcus store at around 7.12pm.

The suspect, who was identified as Sebastian Sepulveda Roman, pulled out a gun and fired once outside the mall, OPD said.

The off-duty officer launched a foot pursuit and called for reinforcements. According to the police department, Roman did not discharge his weapon when he was first shot outside the mall.

A duty officer in a patrol car caught up with the suspect outside an Olive Garden restaurant across from the mall, chef Orlando Rolón said.

Roman and the police exchanged gunfire in the restaurant’s parking lot, according to Rolón.

Roman was shot and injured between two cars.

“We don’t know at this point whether it was our gunshots that caused the death of this individual or whether he committed suicide or fell – because he fell between cars – if he injured himself to the point that he might have actually suffered a fatal injury,” Rolón said.

The weapon used by Roman was recovered from the scene. He was pronounced dead after being rushed to hospital.

The incident is still under investigation.
