The Pennsylvania Homeowner Assistance Fund is providing mortgage assistance to homeowners struggling due to COVID.
Homeowners struggling to make their mortgage payments due to the impact of the COVID pandemic have a new source of assistance.
The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency announced the statewide launch of the Pennsylvania Homeowner Assistance Fund. The fund will use $350 million from the U.S. Federal Bailout Act to provide assistance with mortgage payments or other housing expenses for people suffering financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This program will be a life raft for the growing number of homeowners facing potential home loss and foreclosure due to the financial impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on their lives,” said the Governor Tom Wolf in a statement announcing the launch. “We are pleased to announce that the Pennsylvania Homeowners Assistance Fund is now available to assist homeowners across the state who need it most.”
The fund, which is administered by the Housing Finance Agency, began accepting applications on Tuesday.
To qualify, a homeowner must have a household income at or below 150% of the area’s median income and be able to demonstrate financial hardship caused by COVID. A full list of eligibility requirements is available at pahaf.org/am-i-eligible.
PAHAF assistance programs available include mortgage reinstatement assistance, term mortgage payment assistance, land charge assistance, and utility payment assistance to avoid displacement. Funds will be distributed directly to mortgage lenders, servicers, utility providers and other authorized third parties, not to homeowners.
“Across the Commonwealth, landlords have struggled to cope with pandemic-related financial challenges,” said Robin Wiessmann, PHFA’s executive director and CEO. “The launch of PAHAF ensures eligible Pennsylvania homeowners receive the support and stability they need more than ever. PHFA has worked diligently to launch this program, and we know it will be critical to keeping Pennsylvanians at home and supporting our state’s economic recovery.
